Zeev Mankowitz was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1941 and attended the Machon 1959 (Machzor Kaf-Daled) since 1963 resided in Jerusalem. He studied Jewish and European history at the Hebrew University. His Master's thesis dealt with 'Theological Responses to the Holocaust in North America 1945-1968' while his doctoral dissitation analysed 'The politics and Ideology of She'erith Hapleita in Germany 1944-1947. Dr Mankowitz served as director of the Machon from 1973-1979. He lecured on Holocaust Studies at the School for Overseas Students at the Hebrew University and was director of the Jerusalem Fellows, a program to develop leadership for Jewish education in the Diaspora.
